Inspired by Leon Lederman's The God Particle, development of The Atom Smashers began in February 2004. 137 Films was founded shortly thereafter to support the film and produce films from the world of science.
Principal photography was shot in Batavia, Illinois, Chicago, Washington, DC, and New York between 2004 and 2006. The Atom Smashers is now in post-production and is slated to be completed in Fall 2007. Recent developments in the search for the Higgs, however, may prompt us to again take out the cameras.
The Atom Smashers will be taken to the IFP Market in New York in September to meet with prospective business partners.
Resources are still needed to complete this story of scientists at the edge of discovery in the United States.
