Fermilab delicately balances analysis of the natural world with highly technical equipment housed in acres of Illinois prairie.
To underline this pairing of organic and synthetic in The Atom Smashers, Kate Simko is scoring the film with a background in classical music training and recent experiments in electronic music.
Kate's music ranges from quiet ambient soundscapes to richly textured, pulsating rhythmic tracks. Her intricately programmed live PA has grown worldwide acclaim as she has performed besides artists such as Monolake, Richie Hawtin, Michael Mayer, Four Tet, Ellen Allien, John Tejada, Magda, Swayzak and Ulrich Schnauss.
Receiving press in The Wire, de:Bug, Mixmag, BPM, Grooves Magazine, Igloo, and URB, Kate was also named one of the Top 10 DJ's in Chicago by XLR8R magazine. Her work has been released on Traum Schallplatten, Antenna International, and Kupei Musika and been remixed by Thomas Brinkmann and Atom Heart. She has remixed Philip Glass and Aeroc (Geoff White), among others.
Kate currently holds a monthly residency at Wake Up! (Sonotheque) and works at a recording studio in Chicago. She has forthcoming releases on Kupei, Spectral Sound, and Chocolate Industries.
